Lower Sixth Homework : The Economics of Health

Dear Lower Sixth

HW due Monday

1.Watch the video below and add to your notes how this explains the concepts of the basic economic problem and scarcity and choice

2.Find out what 'opportunity cost' means and give two examples.  An excellent teacher explains concepts on youtube.  Search 'rajholden' and subscribe to his channel!

3.Using the table below, give three examples of opportunity cost using different items on that list.  For example : the opportunity cost of complex tuberculosis is a full-time teacher.  The examples do not need to be exactly accurate - you can just estimate what the government spends its money on.

If you are stuck, leave a comment - a 'man for others' will answer.

Lastly, if you are really, really keen to find out how the NHS allocates makes these tough decisions, watch this video
