ALL : Rebel Cities

Publishing this post on Guy Fawkes night seems appropriate.....

As readers of this blog will be aware, geography, sociology and politics are all subsumed into the ultimate academic discipline : economics.  During Half Term I finished reading Davd Harvey's latest book, "Rebel Cities", which links financial crises to historical bouts of urbanisation. He has strong views on what causes crises of capitalism, describing bankers and politicians as 'feral'

We study what happened in El Alto in Bolivia as part of the Development Economics course.  The author uses this case study as an example of a successful 'rebel city', but he also has interesting analysis of last year's riots, the miners' strike in the 80s, and previous riots in London.

Aspiring PPE, Politics or Economics undergraduates should mention this book in their annual letter to Santa Claus
