Government Failure

Here are some interesting articles on how government policies to deal with market failure may not work : government failure.

Here, the undercover economist, Tim Harford, criticises the effectiveness of Green taxes.

This one is all about alcohol and what measures the government might take. It is a two-part piece and so you should read both parts.
What shall we do with the drunken nation?

This one is all about government action on plastic bags and how it was based on possibly bad information. I have referenced this article before so - doubtless - you have all read it already.
Are plastic bags a global villain

There is an earlier post here about the law of unintended consequences and the smoking ban

In Economax (go to tutor2u.net and then click on economax and enter the username and password) there is an article about ticket-touting, which should act as food for thought.

The fact that there is still illegal gambling, illegal drug use and prostitution despite the fact the government has prohibited them shows evidence of government failure. You may wish to research these.
