Arguements for the Low Emissions Zone

Air pollution in London currently exceeds EU emissions standards, and this scheme is projected to reduce around 16 per cent of pollutants by 2012 in the most heavily polluted areas. The government state that the zone will reduce health costs by £250 million in Britain, due to pollution causing diseases including lung disease and asthma. Vehicles are responsible for two-thirds of this pollution, and the reduction of this pollution will ultimately lead to a healthier city.
