Argument for Low Emission Zone

London has the worst air pollution in the United Kingdom and amongst the worst in Europe, affecting the health and quality of life of many Londoners. Around half of the emissions of oxides and nitrogen are from road transport. It was estimated that in 2005 some 1000 deaths and a similar number of hospital admissions occurred due to poor air quality in London. The LEZ was introduced so there are less premature deaths related to repiratory cardiovascular diseases. The people of london will be granted a healthier lifestyle with the LEZ. The current LEZ emission standards can be seen at http://www.tfl.gov.uk/roadusers/lez/vehicles/2535.aspx.
