argument against low emission zones

An angry reader responds to Mr livingston proposal of Low Emission Zones, calling it a scandal and hypocrisy(typical AUSTIN!!!). The angry reader says this hypocrisy is exposed by the increasing number of traffic lights, often phased to give more time to side roads, pedestrian crossing lights that turn red even when silly people like AUSTIN has pressed the button when no one is crossing the roads, more bus lanes, illogical no-entry/left/right turns and hundreds of bendy buses that form rolling roadblocks. All create jams and congestion.
As i may add It was Livingstone/TfL's bus bonanza that put an additional 500 large diesel engines on London's roads - not at all "low emissions", especially when LPG/CNG-powered alternatives could and should have been used. In his mayoral election campaign next year, Mr Livingstone's £25 per day, no-discount rate for 225g/km C02 cars will no doubt be portrayed as a timely comeuppance to well-heeled 4x4 owners(LIKE AUSTIN CAN OFFORD A CAR HE BARELY PAID FOR AN OYSTER CARD.
The angry reader continues that While this is a typical and unsurprising act of political vindictiveness, it disguises the fact that his plans also include all vehicles of more than 3,000cc registered before 2001. Many more people of modest means, who for practical or financialreasons drive older, large estates or MPVs,(basically he says Austin will be using public transport forever), will also be liable for this extortionate charge. So will builders. Many London residents are unaware of the full impact.
